PSI, formerly called Association of Pastoralists Professional Women and Youth in Kenya (APPWYK), has been involved in various projects and programs targeting girls and women in the pastoralist community in Kenya.

Our Track Record

Distribution of 450 sanitary pads to girls in Iftin Primary school Garissa County in order to increase their school enrolment and retention.

Many girls in primary schools in the pastoralist areas skip school when on their periods. Most of them are subjected to embarrassment and fear of teasing related to menstruation.

Governance Structure

APPWYK held a dialogue session with Garissa University students and discussed impacts of violent extremism on education institutions.

The session helped identify areas of partnership with the students.

Conduction of the Inaugural Pastoralist Youth Summit on 29th July,2019 at Intercontinental Hotel, Nairobi. The year's theme was titled: 'Youth and Sustainable Pastoralism' and it brought together over 200 youth from 10 pastoralist counties in Kenya.

Over 10 panelists moderated discussions that helped to highlight and document the wins and challenges faced by pastoralist community in Kenya as well strategize on way forward for helping the community.

APPWYK was among the CSOs invited by UN Women to a multi-stakeholder meeting to launch the development of joint programmes for Strategic Priority 1- People and Peace.

The event was graced by PS, Ministry of Interior and National Administration, Dr. Raymond Omollo & the PS, State Department for Devolution, Mrs. Teresia Mbaika, CBS along with a diverse group of strategic stakeholders.
